Bidirectional Hydraulic Jar

Up- and down-jarring tool for coiled-tubing operations

Back to hydraulic jars

Description

A jarring tool for coiled-tubing operations, used with a weight bar and a two-way accelerator, usually for fishing, milling, shifting sliding sleeves and similar work.

Features

  • Delivers impacts in both directions
  • Lifting and lowering the string weight produces upward and downward impacts — easy operation
  • Impact force is controlled by the lifting or lowering force, with no other adjustment needed

Operation

The jar is used with a weight bar and a two-way accelerator: the weight bar increases the downward force, and the accelerator is a separate accumulator that enhances the impact. For a downward impact, slack off work string weight onto the jar. For an upward impact, pick up the work string and apply tension to the jar. Downhole, the string can be lifted and lowered to jar repeatedly.
