Full Bore Test Valve
Full-opening test valve with bypass, operated by string movement
Description
A downhole shut-in valve with full opening and a bypass port. It is operated by lifting and lowering the string and can open and close repeatedly.
Features
- Controlled only by lifting and lowering the string — simple structure and convenient operation
- Full opening
- Bypass helps when running in and pulling out the string
- When the valve opens, the string drops freely and noticeably, giving a clear indication at surface
- Bypass port can be configured to close when the well is first opened and stay closed, or to close when the well opens and reopen when the well closes
Operation
While running in, the valve is closed and the bypass is open for flow. When string weight is applied, the metering section starts its time delay and the bypass closes slowly. When the delay ends, the string drops freely and the ball valve opens. To close the well, pick up the string to the free point: the ball valve closes directly, since there is no delay in this direction. Slacking off then puts string weight on the packer, but the ball valve stays closed. To reopen, lift and lower the string once more. Repeat to open and close the well multiple times.
