Normally Open Valve
Circulating valve closed by dropping a ball — used for fluid replacement in acidizing
Description
The normally open valve is a circulating valve whose circulating port is closed by dropping a steel ball into the tubing and applying tubing pressure. It is used as a fluid replacement valve in acidizing operations.
Features
- During circulation, the shear pin keeps the circulating port open
- After circulation, a ball is dropped into the tubing from the wellhead and liquid is pumped by a pump truck at a set rate and pressure to close the port; at the same time the steel ball is released and the tool returns to full opening
- Once closed, the circulating port cannot be opened again
