Extension Pipe

Accommodates string length changes and absorbs perforating shock

Back to slip joints

Description

The extension pipe can be run above the packer, where it accommodates changes in string length caused by temperature and pressure during the downhole test. When run below the packer, it absorbs the impact of perforating on the string so that the packer stays safely set.

It is usually used in perforating + acid fracturing + testing operations.

Features

  • Shear pins hold the tool in the contracted state while running in; the number of pins can be selected as required
  • Large telescopic stroke of 1.5–2.0 m [4.9–6.6 ft]
  • Torque adapter transfers string torque
  • Round mandrel design for reliable sealing and a long service life

Operation

While running in, the shear pins keep the slip pipe in the contracted state. During the operation, once the pins are sheared by pressure, the tool provides 1.5–2.0 m of telescopic stroke to compensate for expansion and contraction of the string.
