Long Long Slip Joint
Compensates for vessel heave and thermal and pressure effects on the string
Applications
- Floating vessel operations
- Squeezing and treating
- Land testing
- Test strings run with a packer
Description
The Long Long slip joint is an expansion joint run in the string. It is specifically designed for floating vessel operations, such as squeezing and treating, where it compensates for the up and down movement of the floating drilling vessel. On land tests, the tool compensates for the contraction and expansion of the string caused by temperature and pressure changes.
Whether the tool expands or contracts, its inner volume remains invariant, which helps keep the internal pressure of the pipe constant. When the slip joint is run below the test valve, this pressure-balance feature helps minimize pressure surges on the pressure gauge.
Features
- Invariant inner volume keeps internal pipe pressure constant
- Special round mandrel structure for more reliable sealing and a longer service life
- Travel up to 1.5 m [5 ft]
- Pressure-balance feature minimizes pressure surges on the gauge when run below the test valve
- Torsion key transfers string torque
Operation
When the tool is used with a packer, it is in the contracted state once the packer is completely set. During the operation, the slip joint compensates freely for elongation and contraction of the string.
