Extension Tube

Large-bore slip tube that compensates for string length changes during stimulation

Back to completion tools

Description

The extension tube is a large-ID downhole tool with adjustable extension stroke and reliable sealing, built to compensate for length changes caused by pressure and temperature. It is used with hydraulic packers in fracturing, acidizing and stimulation jobs.

Features

  • Transfers torque in any position
  • Two-way combined sealing mechanism for reliable sealing
  • Large, adjustable slip stroke
  • Initial start-up pressure is set by the number of shear pins

Operation

While running in, shear pins keep the slip tube contracted. When pressure is applied in the string to set the hydraulic packer, the shear pins are sheared. During the following acidizing operation, the tool is free to stroke, compensating for the stretch and contraction caused by temperature and pressure changes so that the packer stays reliably set.
