Hydraulic-set permanent hookwall packer with release and re-attach
Description
A hydraulically set permanent packer for cased holes, with release and re-attach capability: the parts of the string above the packer can be retrieved, maintained or replaced. After release, the two-way mechanical slips and inner lock mechanism keep the packer stable. Suitable for single-trip completion operations.

Operation
Apply pressure to the tubing. At the setting pressure, the setting shear pin in the packer shears, the setting piston moves up, and the upper and lower slips open and bite into the casing. At the same time, the rubber element is compressed and, together with its metal back-up device, expands against the casing; extrusion of the packer ring forms a protective circle. The inner lock ring moves synchronously and locks the slips and element in the set position.
To release, rotate the string to the right: the left-hand connection between the anchor sealing assembly and the packer unscrews, and the string above the packer can be pulled out. When the string is run in again to re-attach, slacking off weight makes the anchor sealing thread engage the thread at the top of the packer, and the string and packer lock together securely.
