HPAPS Circulating Valve & HPAP Circulating Valve
High-pressure safety circulating valves for deep wells
Description
Full-bore, annulus pressure-operated tools with high pressure resistance, usually used in deep wells. The HPAPS circulating valve is used to seal off the oil and gas zone after testing and to perform circulation. It also traps part of the formation fluid sample between its ball valve and the ball valve of the test valve. As a safety valve, it can be operated to shut in the well at any time during testing.
With the ball valve removed from the HPAPS circulating valve, the tool is used as an HPAP circulating valve.
Features
- Gas chamber design gives the tool high strength: it withstands 200 MPa [29,000 psi] absolute pressure
- Ball valve closes first and the circulating ports open afterwards, for safe and reliable operation
- Rupture disc operation allows accurate pressure data to be recorded
- Shear pin structure prevents the tool from being affected by surge pressure while running in
Operation
Before running in, choose a suitable rupture disc according to the hydrostatic column pressure and formation temperature. The rupture disc operating pressure is usually set 1,000–1,500 psi above the operating pressure of other tools.
Annulus pressure bursts the rupture disc and shears the pin; the operating mandrel moves downward, the ball valve closes first, and the circulating ports then open to connect the inside and outside of the string for circulation. The valve can be operated only once downhole.
