Releasable & Re-Attachable Downhole Open/Shut-Off Valve
Closes the well on release and reopens it on re-attachment, without killing the well
Description
Used in integrated testing and completion strings, installed above a hydraulically set hookwall packer. By closing on release and opening on re-attachment, it isolates the formation temporarily and provides a return path for the string and a safe wellbore for a second completion trip, improving efficiency and reducing time and cost for testing and completion.
Features
- Ball mechanism controls opening and closing with reliable sealing
- Rotate the string right to release and shut in the well — high safety
- Push down to re-attach and open the well — easy operation
- No need to kill the well when releasing to shut in — economical
- Does not transfer string torque
Operation
Release to shut in: with the well open, rotate the string right several turns to unscrew the thread, then pick up a set distance to shut in the well. Continue picking up to release the seal (bore and annulus connected) and pull out the upper releasing part.
Re-attach to open: push the string straight down. The anchor seal and re-attach case seal together (bore and annulus separated), the well opens and the thread engages; once engaged, the anchor seal and re-attach case lock securely.
