Safety Fluids Replacement Valve
Ball-operated safety circulating valve for fluid replacement above a shut-in ball valve
Description
A full-bore safety circulating tool operated by dropping a ball. It is mainly used above the shut-in ball valve to circulate fluids, avoiding the risks that high pressure could cause during fluid replacement. After fluid replacement, a ball is dropped and pressure applied to close the circulating port and open the ball valve; the spring-finger ball seat then releases the ball so that the tool is full opening and does not affect subsequent operations.
Features
- Spring-finger ball seat releases the steel ball, leaving the tool full opening for following operations
- Shear pin mechanism keeps the circulating port open and the ball valve closed while tripping in
- Shut-in ball valve below the circulating port ensures well safety during fluid replacement
- The circulating port closes first and the ball valve opens afterwards, ensuring well control after fluid replacement
Operation
While running in, the circulating port is open and the ball valve is closed. After fluid replacement, drop a steel ball into the string until it lands on the ball seat, then apply tubing pressure to shear the pin. The operating mandrel moves down to close the circulating port and open the ball valve, after which the ball is released and the tool is full opening.
