Cased Hole Straddle Packer

Upper packer for isolating a zone between two packers in cased hole

Back to packers

Description

To test a zone sealed off on both sides in a cased hole, a standard slips packer is set below the zone and a straddle packer above it, with a heavy sieve tube between them. After running in, the slips packer is set first, then additional weight shears the pins in the straddle packer and sets it, isolating the zone between the two packers.

Structure

  • Consists of an upper adapter, center mandrel, upper shoe, packer elements, lower shoe, shear pins, lower adapter and other parts — simple structure and easy operation
  • Shear pin value can be selected

Operation

To set, set the lower slips packer first, then apply more weight to shear the pins in the straddle packer and set it. To unset, pick up the string directly.
