Slips Packer

Retrievable weight-set hang packer with built-in bypass

Back to packers

Description

A retrievable hang packer with bypass, set mechanically by weight and generally used in cased holes. The large-area bypass port allows fluid to flow when running in and pulling out.

Features

  • Large ID allows large volumes of fluid to be pumped with a small pressure drop
  • Built-in bypass provides a flow channel while running in and pulling out and equalizes the pressure above and below the elements, making tripping convenient, safe and reliable
  • Slips hang reliably against the casing ID
  • For acidizing or injection jobs, hydraulic slips can be added to prevent the packer from moving up

Operation

The bypass port is open while running in. Run the packer slightly below the setting depth, pick up, then apply right-hand torque. Hold the torque and slack off weight until the packer sets; the bypass closes. Release the torque: setting is complete. To unset, pick up directly: the bypass opens to equalize the pressure above and below the elements, and continued pulling unsets the packer.
