MP Packer

Retrievable packer with built-in concentric bypass

Back to packers

Description

The MP packer is a large-bore, retrievable, mechanical hookwall packer that seals in both directions and has a built-in concentric bypass mechanism. It is used in cased-hole testing, treating, squeezing and cementing operations.

Features

  • Three combined rubber elements allow the packer to hold a higher sealing differential pressure
  • Built-in concentric bypass mechanism provides a larger flow area
  • After setting, string pressure acts on the balance piston and keeps the bypass port reliably closed
  • Picking up opens the bypass port directly, without rotating the string

Operation

The bypass port is open while running in. To set, run the packer below the setting depth, then lift it to the setting depth. Rotate the string to the right and hold right-hand torque, then slack off string weight until the bypass port closes and the packer sets. Release the torque: setting is complete.

To unset, pick up the string to open the bypass port and equalize the pressure above and below the packer, then continue picking up to unset the packer.
